Rain Gauge

This rain recorder provides a permanent continuous record of rainfall amount, duration and intensity. The rain collects in the funnel where it drains to a float chamber. The rising float then lifts the pen vertically on the paper chart, which is on a rotating drum.

From the trace on the chart the intensity, amount and duration can be measured. With the heaviest rain giving the steepest incline. When the pen reaches the top of the chart the float chamber tilts over and a siphoning action empties it, returning the pen to the bottom of the chart.
