This 3m dish is used to receive images of weather systems and clouds directly from the METEOSAT satellite position 36,000 km over the equator. Images of the UK, Europe and beyond can be received every half hour. As well as visual images, infra red images are available allowing the cloud and land temperatures to be monitored. The images are stored on a computer and played back in a loop allowing the movement and development of weather systems to be monitored.
